Myth: Chiropractic treatment involves cracking my spine.

Fact: One part of Chiropractic treatment involves applying a quick, precise pressure to the joint, which creates a cracking or a popping noise. This is called an adjustment. The popping noise doesn’t come from your bones, but from the release of a gas bubble when two joints are separated. This is just like when you pop your knuckles, or you scrunch up your toes first thing in the morning.

Myth: No one should use so much pressure on my spine…that can’t be right.

Fact: The adjustment does not involve a great deal of force. Skill, positioning, speed, and timing are more important than force.

Myth: I heard that cracking your joints can cause arthritis?

Fact: There is no reason to think there is a connection. In fact, an adjustment increases mobility, reduces pressure on the joints, muscles, and nerves, and allows the spine to return to a natural position and movement.

We use a tandem approach of chiropractic & massage to optimize results. In addition, our office is more of a spa than a cold, sterile clinic. Traditionally, the chiropractor addressed the neurological system and skeletal system, while the massage therapist addressed solely the muscular system.

By utilizing the healing arts of chiropractic and massage therapy in tandem, we provide you care for the muscular, neurological, and skeletal systems – all in the same place and at the same time. In doing so, you recover faster, fuller, and freer of complications.

In addition, our office is more of a spa than a sterile clinic. With the world getting busier and more challenging each day, we provide a sanctuary from the stress of everyday life. Not only do our therapies achieve stress relief in general, our atmosphere makes your visit that much more pleasurable.

We’ve found the ideal combination of style and substance.

Massage Therapy has been around for thousands of years. The word “massage” comes from the Greek root “masso” — to touch. Its benefits are varied and far-reaching. Many people consider massage a pampering experience, but it has important health benefits. In fact, you get the greatest benefit when it is part of your regular wellness routine. Massage therapy is currently being used as a principle form of treatment for many chronic health conditions such as arthritis, high blood pressure, and all forms of headaches, among many others. And, as many millions will attest, massage also helps relieve the stress and tension of everyday living that can lead to disease and illness.

Manual Therapy (generally, Bodywork) resembles massage therapy in many ways, but exceeds it in its attention to biomechanical and structural functioning. Manual therapists may use non-chiropractic manipulation, movement, stretching and/or re-patterning to affect structural changes to the body. The benefits from manual therapy tend to be more specific to regions of the body or conditions of dysfunction. As such, manual therapy/bodywork works as an ideal adjunct to chiropractic treatment.

Please note: Massage and bodywork specifically exclude diagnosis, prescription, manipulation or adjustments of the human skeletal structure, or any other service, procedure or therapy which requires a licensed chiropractor, orthopedist physical therapist, or osteopath.

Will My Insurance Cover It? Yes! Massage and manual therapy are covered by nearly all PPO health insurance plans provided it is prescribed by your Chicago chiropractor. Call us to find out if you are eligible under your current health plan.

Just as a chain tends to break at its weakest link, we seem to exhibit stress and strain in the weakest areas of our bodies. For some its an upset stomach, back pain, recurring headaches, or muscle stiffness. Still others respond with nervous twitches, allergic reactions, or sensitivities to chemicals. Regardless of your particular response, the function of your nervous system is involved. That’s why chiropractic can be so helpful.

The chiropractic approach to stress is to help normalize the function of your nervous system by removing interference caused by the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. Finding the weak links in your spine (the major communication pathway of your nervous system) and helping restore better function, can make a profound difference in your response to stress.

It may not be possible to remove the stress from a busy life. However, with the help of your chiropractic doctor, you can respond better to the unique challenges you face.
